If you’re nodding along and thinking that India is far behind in environmental friendliness and presumably doesn’t have any eco-friendly resorts, think again. Continue reading for a list of the top environmental resorts in South India.
Here are various resorts where you may spend your holiday:
Location: Wayanad, Kerala
Banasura Hill Resort is a 35-acre property nestled away in the hills of Wayanad that is covered with tea, coffee, pepper, and cashew crops. The bungalows and cottages in the resort were created with rammed earth—a technique in which only natural raw materials such as earth, chalk line, or gravel are utilized, and elephant grass is used for the roofs.
Location: Palani Hills, Tamil Nadu
The Elephant Valley Eco Farm is situated in Kodaikanal, one of the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots. It derives its name from the fact that it is located on a historic elephant migratory path near the national forest’s border. The busiest months for sightseeing and other tourist activities are April and June, but November and January may also be pleasant.
Location: Karnataka
The Kabini River Lodge was turned from a hunting range into an eco-hotel. Nagarhole National Park (Rajiv Gandhi National Park) is located along its banks and is home to elephants, sambar, and spotted deer, wild boars, sloth bears, gaur, and the rare tiger and panther. The previous Maharajah of Mysore used to frequent this region for hunting.
Location: Bangalore
Our Native Village in Hesaraghatta bills itself as “100% eco-friendly,” and the concept appears to be popular among families and professionals. Families and IT professionals visit the facility for all-day activities and overnight on the 12-acre property.
The spaces are made of sun-baked clay bricks and mud dug from the building site to keep the rooms pleasant without the need for air conditioning. Visitors can opt to unwind at their spa or participate in picturesque activities such as riding a bullock cart, milking a cow, creating pottery, or wandering along natural trails.
Location: Goa
This eco-chic yoga retreat hidden in a coconut grove has been lauded by The Guardian, Conde Nast Traveller, and Vogue Italy. Yogamagic provides magnificent tented accommodation that has been traditionally made with mud, bamboo, stone, and coconut leaves. The floors are constructed of coconut coir fiber; the lighting and hot showers are solar-powered; greywater is reclaimed, and all of the furniture was handcrafted by the people.
Phil Dane and Juliet Leary, who are strong proponents of new, alternative technologies that interact with greenways of life, created and manage Yogamagic, a self-catering eco-hotel. Visitors participate in yoga sessions and Ayurvedic therapies led by attentive instructors, and all cuisine is organic, vegan, raw, or vegetarian. Plastic usage is forbidden. Clay tiled roofs and salvaged wooden doors and windows from decaying houses in India add a personal touch.
